Dangers of Kangen water ionizers

Japanese Kangen water machines in India have become increasingly popular in recent years, marketed as a way to capture the rejuvenating power of ionized alkaline water. These machines separate domestic tap water into two streams - acidic and alkaline - with only the alkaline water remaining for consumption.

The manufacturers claim the pH level of the alkaline water produced by Kangen machines often exceeds the ideal value 7.5 by a factor of 10,000, which is dangerously higher than the recommended level for good quality drinking water prescribed by the Government of India.

While alkaline water is being aggressively market by MLM companies to be healthier, the safety of consuming highly alkaline ionized water on a regular basis is a matter of concern. Impurities in certain "direct selling" independent sales associates of Japanese origin "Kangen water" brands claim that their highly alkaline ionized water (having pH >8.5) is safe for Indians to regularly consume in large quantities, based on dubious certifications issued or procured in Japan or elsewhere.

Consumers must ensure that the pH level of the water you drink never exceeds pH 8.5. Drinking highly alkaline water regularly disrupts the body's natural pH balance with adverse effects on health. Drinking highly alkaline water on a regular basis can cause "alkalosis", a condition where the body's pH level becomes too alkaline. The symptoms of alkalosis include nausea, vomiting, confusion, and even seizures.

Additionally, the safety of Japanese Kangen water machines has been called into question by several experts. These machines often use platinum-coated titanium plates to ionize the water, which can release toxic particles into the water. These toxic heavy metal particles harm the human body, especially when consumed in large quantities.

It is imperative for consumers to know the technology for alkaline ionized water that is safe for humans and conforms to "drinking water" specifications under the relevant mandatory BIS drinking water standards applicable in India. The use of Japanese Kangen water machines is not recommended as these machines may produce highly alkaline water that is not safe for regular consumption.
