Rajya Sabha nixes SC order on jailed candidates
The Rajya Sabha has unanimously passed a Bill rejecting a Supreme Court verdict to disallowing people in jail to contest polls. .
The amendment to sub-clause 5 of section 62 of the Representation of Peoples Act, when passed by Parliament, shall come into effect from July 10, 2013, the date the Supreme Court held that people in jail cannot contest elections.
